As further demonstration that despite living outside of the country, Canadians can make significant contributions to both Canada and the world, four Canadian expats have been admitted into the Order of Canada.  Although the announcement was made on June 30^th a ceremony will take place sometime later in the year.

The four expats among the 74 total appointees were Gwyn Dyer, Michael J. Fox, James Ehenes, and Hal O’ Leary.Gwyn Dyer currently living in London England, is being recognized for his contributions as a columnist, documentary producer, broadcaster and author.  Michael J. Fox originally from Burnaby BC but now living in New York, is being recognized for his contributions as an advocate for those with Parkinson’s disease, and as an actor in film and on television. Last year Fox was also voted as the most influential Canadian expat by members of the Canadian Expat Association.  Both Gwyn Dyer and Michael J. Fox were admitted as Officers of the Order of Canada.

James Ehnes of Bradenton, Florida received the award for his accomplishments as a concert violinist, who began violin studies at the age of four and who has received acclaim both in Canada and abroad. Hal O’Leary, now living in Winter Park, Colorado has been admitted for his contributions to enhanced quality of life for persons with disabilities, as a specialist in adaptive techniques, equipment and sports programs.
