I will be in France for an extended period with my wife. We will likely need medical insurance that goes beyond Emergency Medical through VISA or Travel Underwriters. I am prepared to pay for and operate solely on the French system even pay for it if necessary. I have heard that I could qualify for the French medical as my wife has a UK passport but I cannot leave it to chance. How long can I drive in France with my Ontario licence, how do I get a French DL and is there a limit to the time that I can drive with the Ont licence.

Hellow fellow Canadians,

Can anyone pass along some advice on the best strategy for booking a flight home? I am currently living in Italy (Rome, Florence, Pisa area) and would like to fly home this summer. I have found that booking a few months ahead of the date usually gives me great price advantage. However this year I noticed that prices are rather high. Would this be due to the current market situation? Last year I found roundtrip flights for € 400 which included all taxes about 1 month before my flight date and it was for July - high season. This year I began in February and the prices are on average € 800 for end of July flights. Any comments.

I was excited following the events of the winter olympics in Vancover...it was really uplifting and made feel proud to be a Canadian.

I was worried that things will not go on well as you all know what happened to the olympic village and the catastrophic project management team that was forced to resign...but thank god that a highly efficient project management team took it on....an they made it happen in good time...

Hello Lax'ers.

I am the coach of the buckhurst hill lacrosse club and I am looking for people interested in playing lacrosse. I arrived from Canada over xmas and have found a large commitment problem from current players, ie most players to show up for a game thus far 11, most to a practice 6. If you have played before or are interested in picking up a great game, email me. I can have you on the field tomorrow. 2 games this weekend, 1 sat 1 sun, come out and get in the game. If you need gear we can outfit you with everything you need. North American players who have been without since moveing here are more then welcome.

Jimmy,

This can be a tricky question. Even if your wife has effectively severed all ties to Canada including RRSPs, bank accounts, pension plan, stock options and even driver's license (the list is extensive) she could still be liable for income that she earned immediately before leaving Canada. Did she file a final tax return? I would reccomend you make contact with a Canadian tax consultant if you at all concerned.

luxhermexthibeault, At this point, the only scholarships available are those offered by individual schools. The association is currently working towards building one but we are unable to release terms just yet. Stay tuned. For the time being, it's going to require a search of schools you might consider. If we hear of any that might be of interest to you, we'll let you know.

I would like to ask if you guys know how to get a scholarship for our child as we are living in Bali in Indonesia. He's only 2 right now, but i am worry about his next education and seing the cost of these international school is not encouraging. Any suggestions what to do before getting too late?

My wife is Canadian, I'm American. We've lived in the USA for many years, and as such there is no question that she is an expatriate. My question is, even though as an expatriate she has no Canadian income tax liability, does my wife need to file a form every year anyway just to prove that?
